What is Behavior-Based Safety (BBS)?

Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) is a preventive approach that seeks to reduce workplace accidents by acting on the attitudes, beliefs, habits and risk perception that influence human behavior.

Identify risks

We analyze the behaviors, beliefs, habits and attitudes that influence workplace safety, taking into account the language, idiosyncrasy and cultural differences of Spanish-speaking teams.

Observe and assess

We observe real work to understand how risk perception, experiences and cultural factors influence workers' decisions and behaviors.

Raise awareness

We develop awareness sessions, experiential workshops and hands-on, playful activities, in Spanish, to transform attitudes and reinforce safe habits.

Reinforce change

We assess progress and reinforce safe behaviors through follow-up, participation and positive feedback, to sustain a culture of prevention.

It is not about blaming the worker

  • Understand, do not blame.Identify the causes of unsafe behaviors without pointing fingers.
  • Prevent, do not punish.Observation aims to improve working conditions and behaviors, not to punish.
  • Fix the environment, not just the behavior.Safety also depends on procedures, working conditions and leadership.

The Educalatina contribution

  • Occupational safety + Applied psychology. We integrate both disciplines to transform attitudes, habits and behaviors.
  • Learning through experience.Awareness sessions, experiential workshops and hands-on, playful activities.
  • We speak your language and understand your culture.Programs in Spanish adapted to the idiosyncrasy, beliefs and cultural differences of Spanish-speaking workers in the United States.

Why are language and culture key to workplace safety in the U.S.?

Language and real understanding

Listening to a training session is not enough. It has to be understood.

  • Training and awareness 100% in Spanish.
  • Clear technical language adapted to regional differences.
  • Participatory activities to check understanding.
  • Communication that encourages questions and clears up doubts.

Idiosyncrasy and attitudes

Beliefs and customs influence how we act in the face of risk.

  • Identification of habits and attitudes that can compromise safety.
  • Awareness of the pressure to deliver and of unsafe shortcuts.
  • Building the confidence to report and stop unsafe tasks.
  • Promoting personal and collective commitment to prevention.

Risk perception

The fact that no accident has ever happened does not mean a behavior is safe.

  • Identification of risks that routine makes invisible.
  • Transformation of beliefs such as "I have always done it this way".
  • Experiential workshops and analysis of real situations.
  • Awareness of the human and family consequences of accidents.

Changing the paradigm

More than 80% of workplace accidents are caused by the human factor.(*)

Companies use most of their financial resources on workers' technical training (aptitude), leaving habits, attitudes and behaviors in the background (attitude).

True prevention requires developing aptitudes and transforming attitudes.

24%

of U.S. workplace fatalities in 2024 were Hispanic or Latino workers (1,229 of 5,070).

42%

of Florida workplace fatalities in 2024 were Hispanic or Latino workers.

4.3 vs. 3.3

fatalities per 100,000 full-time equivalent workers: Hispanic or Latino workers versus all U.S. workers.

Participatory and Experiential Methodology

Safety is not learned just by listening, but by living the experience.

Our Tools

Playful Dynamics and Gamification

Games, group challenges and simulations that let people experience risk situations, make decisions and reflect on their consequences.

Interactive Audiovisual Resources

Videos, real cases and everyday situations that create emotional impact, encourage reflection and strengthen risk perception.

Reflection and Awareness Activities

Participatory experiences designed to question deep-rooted beliefs, change unsafe habits and strengthen individual and collective commitment to prevention.

Intervention Program Phases

1

Diagnosis and Cultural Adaptation

We identify the organization's needs, risk behaviors and the language and cultural particularities of Spanish-speaking teams.

2

Experiential and Participatory Sessions

We run workshops, dynamics and hands-on, playful activities in Spanish, adapted to each team's idiosyncrasy and work reality.

3

Individual and Group Commitment

Signing of a collective self-care pledge and alignment with middle management.

4

Evaluation and Sustainability

Behavior audits at 30 and 90 days with delivery of a management report.

The 3 pillars of preventive transformation

Each pillar is developed through four topics. All are available as live workshops, and several also include an interactive preview.

Risk Perception

Recognizing the risk

Risk perception and situational awareness

Recognize, interpret and assess hazards in the environment, and challenge the false sense of safety.

Impact: Eliminates 'routine blindness' in highly experienced workers.

Live workshop

Routine blindness and false sense of safety

Why habit dulls attention and how to regain an attentive eye on everyday tasks.

Impact: Replaces «We've always done it this way» with «Now we do it safely».
